Two types of MP3 players

There are 2 main types of portable MP3 players in the market these days: the flash-based MP3 players and the hard-drive-based MP3 players. There is some debate as to which of the two is better, common sense would tell you to get a hard drive version if big storage is what you crave for. But each of them has their own advantage and disadvantages. In this article we compare hard disk based memory mobile players and flash based counterparts.

Flash-memory based MP3 players are the most common kinds of MP3 players in the market these days because of the long life-span of flash-memory (meaning your player could be used for up to 10 years) and the compactness of the players. They are also more drop-proof (if you drop your player, it is more likely to fail because of the LCD screen broke than because the memory-chip or other components broke). However, they are limited to at most 8GB or 16GB and could be relatively expensive (based on price/GB) if you need a lot of storage space.

Hard-Drive based MP3 players have the advantage of being able to store huge amount of audio/video files in a very compact machine. They are also the cheapest if you rank by price/GB. They are very suitable for storing video files which may be too large-size to store in flash-memory-based players. However, they are typically heavier and more likely to fail if you drop them.

In general, hard disks have a lower price-per-Mbyte at high capacities, but have fixed costs that make them more costly at lower capacities. Therefore, analysts such as In-Stat believe the two memory formats will always co-exist. Customers who require 20 to 60 GB of capacity in their digital audio players are music enthusiasts who require large amounts of memory to store enormous music libraries. They want all their music with them at all times; therefore they will require higher-capacity HDD players. On the other hand, there will be a wide audience that is price-sensitive and does not require loads of memory space, especially first-time MP3 player buyers. These customers will turn to lower-priced, Flash-based MP3 players.

Some people think flash drive mp3 players rule over hard drive mp3 players. They think with today’s technology, internal flash drives can hold up to a whopping 32 Gigabytes! That’s a very large amount of data capacity for something so small. Also, most of your mp3 players using a hard drive, don’t give the option to add flash memory cards, increasing your memory, while flash drive mp3 players almost always have a slot to add more flash memory cards. This is one of the reasons that flash drive mp3 players rule over hard drive mp3 players, but is also probably the most important reason.

Music changes our life

You may have the feeling. The first time you hear a song that brings a tear to your eye, or sends a chill down your spine, or spreads a smile across your face. Listening to music has taken time I would’ve fully concentrated on something else…I suppose I run more since I’m listening to music anyway. And it definitely changes my mood which probably changes how I handle a situation. It wouldn’t be to out of the question to say you met your future spouse at a concert after liking one album by a band. Or you may view music differently after just one album, but beyond that, most changes just have to do with how you think of or make music, not your life outside of that.

Music melts the separate parts of our bodies together. Music can change what we feel in our souls. It can release us from sorrow and distress, encourage and motivate us, or slow us down and soothe us. Not only does our soul respond to music, but, as researchers are finding out, so does our body. Music can change our lives mentally and physically no matter what our stage in life: baby, child, teen, adult or elder.

Most of us know that music affects how we feel. It can change how we feel or it can strengthen or weaken what we feel. If we’re happy, a piece of fast, joyful music can strengthen that emotion or if we’re sad it can bring some joy into our hearts. There are some much deeper effects that we probably don’t notice which have been left to scientists to discover. They believe that music, especially baroque and classical, activate the left and right brains simultaneously which maximizes learning and retention. Good news for school kids who like classical music, right? Music also affects our brain waves, improves test scores and GPAs and enhances our listening skills. WOW, that’s impressive. Give me that Mozart CD.

On the other hand hard rock music has been found to weaken all the muscles in the body. The symmetry between cerebral hemispheres is destroyed causing alarm in the body. Work performance is affected and children develop learning and behavior problems. These are not the changes we want, of course, but we do need to be aware of the fact that music - all kinds of music - do indeed change us.

Music can do much for our physical lives. By dancing we exercise the body and learn to coordinate movement. Playing an instrument enforces math skills and coordination. Singing enhances the cardiovascular system. Music motivates us to get through that tough exercise session and perhaps helps us work a little harder. And there are other physical changes we can’t see. Music can reduce or increase heart rate and pulse depending on whether it’s fast or slow. Music relaxes us and decreases blood pressure; even babies are soothed by classical music. Older people sleep better after listening to soft music.

It can’t be denied that music definitely plays a part in our lives. So make music to be a part of your life.
